The Dance • Opera • Theatre (DOT) Policy is Equity’s multidisciplinary engagement policy for non-standard, small-scale engagements in dance, opera, and theatre.
Under the DOT, Equity members and other professionally affiliated artists can work on Equity contracts alongside non-professional artists who are not on contract.
It’s important to take the time to read the DOT terms to understand everyone’s rights and responsibilities under the agreement.
The DOT is used for productions and activities produced by companies, groups, organizations or individuals that are not regularly adhered to one of Equity’s negotiated scale agreements. It is also used for Equity members working at educational institutions.
The DOT provides flexibility for Engagers and Equity members who self-engage, supporting growth and work opportunities across the live performance industry.
Engagers are responsible for maintaining safe and respectful workplaces. The Engager has a further obligation to provide workers with a recourse for raising concerns without fear of reprisal and to promptly investigate any safety concerns or incidents of inappropriate behaviour in the workplace.
