Indigenous Allyship
The purpose of the Indigenous Allyship Working Group is to advance the work of reconciliation within Equity and its jurisdiction, as articulated in Equity’s Statement of Affirmation.
This includes:
- Supporting the work of the Indigenous Members Circle to ensure that the goals of redressing systemic exclusion are not borne by those who have been excluded;
- Expanding the membership’s understanding as to the experience and participation of Indigenous artists in Equity’s jurisdiction;
- Making recommendations to Council for policy change or practice implementation that might make Equity a better “fit” for Indigenous artists.
Indigenous Members Circle
The purpose of the Indigenous Members Circle is to connect with Indigenous members, as well as the broader membership, in order to:
- Increase Council’s awareness of key issues impacting Indigenous members
- Make recommendations to Council on how Equity can better serve and represent Indigenous communities, in consultation with Indigenous members and community consultants as needed
- Explore ways, through an Indigenous lens, to support equity for IBPOC artists within the arts community
- Work to amplify and assert the cultural sovereignty of Indigenous members within Equity’s jurisdiction, both on and off stage, including within senior management, boards, and patronage structures
