Grant Cowan

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Grant Cowan on January 26th 2026 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Toronto. Grant was not the tallest of people but in the world of musical theatre he was a giant.

Originally from Winnipeg where he studied with The Royal Winnipeg Ballet also in England with the Bristol Old Vic Grant’s career began in earnest after his move to Toronto.

Grant performed on the stage throughout Canada as well as on Broadway as Snoopy in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” and also in “Beauty and the Beast”.

Perhaps more importantly than the kudos he received for his performances on stage was that off stage people gravitated towards him and they quickly became his friends.

Grant involved himself in communities and became somewhat of an emissary for theatre. To me and many others this was not at all surprising considering that Grant was a gentle giving person.

I quote from the song that Grant performed in “The Vaudevillians” DROP YOUR BEST CURTAIN IN TURN THE SPOTLIGHT TO DIM FOR I’M BIDDING MY WORLD GOODBYE.

You shall be missed my friend.
